The Bride's Day
banner add
Welcome to the world of planning a wedding.... investigating limos.... organising people, food and venues.  It's exciting and chaotic. One question though...  In your wedding check list have you thought about a video memory of your wedding day? Why should you add to the expense of your wedding day?
  • To have an audio/visual recording of possibly the most beautiful experience of your life.
  • To record your vows word-for-word. This moment passes so fast, it becomes a blur. But in video, you can see and remember every emotion.
  • In the future,  you’ve got a constant reminder of the vows you made. A reminder that could inspire your marriage to new heights. As your video is passed down from one generation to the next, it becomes a legacy to inspire your children, and even their children.

Hi, my name is Aliki and I love capturing on video the special moments in a bride's day.  My style of video taking is casual and closeup. Because your wedding day will be full of expression and emotion, this is what I like to capture on screen. The beautiful Gold Coast is the only area I cover for "the bride's day"
service
There are generally3 parts to the Bride's day.  She has to get ready -  she gets married (yay) -  then she celebrates.  You can have any of these components added to your video memory.  My goal and passion is to capture the "life of the day"  -   The fun * The fits of laughter * The friendships * The emotions * The decisions.  It's a "real and close up" contemporary style of filming - not formal.
  • The Bride's day begins with the nervous energy of getting ready. An hour before you leave for the ceremony I would be there to capture the excited faces in lots of natural light, mirror shots , champagne glasses, clothes and jewelry lying around!
  • At the ceremony I capture some footage of the groom and his mates before the bride arrives.  Once she arrives I film her getting out of the car, then dash inside to position the camera on the platform. The camera position and venue is something I discuss with you before the day. Small venues can be challenging, so my goal is to make the most of every opportunity. Spaces and light conditions are very important factors for a videographer because we only have ONE chance to get it right :-)  The camera will remain stationary (on a tripod) for the ceremony. The only changes here will be zooming in and out and panning left and right. These are the limitations of having one camera and operator - worth noting to avoid disappointment later.
  • Oh no... the wedding speeches.  Oh yes... the Bridal dance.  I can film these for you also. At the reception I will grab some "atmosphere shots" and take the camera around the room once or twice so that you have a visual record of most of your guests. It's amazing for you and your friends to look back at the video in 20 years time and see who was there, what they were doing and what they looked like. (I've been married 20 years now). Once the speeches and bridal dance are filmed, I'm heading home.

sony camera
The Sony V1P HD Digital Camera is my chosen "shooting machine."  It's a 3CCD professional camera that captures colour and life at very high quality (and in poor light conditions), producing sharp images and lasting memories. I edit video in Sony Vegas using simple cross fades and elegant titles at major theme transitions. Although I have a huge selection of transitions to choose from, I don't use them for wedding videos. Why? Because it's about the people and particularly the bride. I don't believe in cluttering the screen with busy transitions or putting fuzzy white edges around everything. Your final video will have more of a simple contemporary vibe.
Tips for Videos that Inspire
A video may excel technically, but if it lacks feeling it won’t affect its viewers or worse come off as boring. Since you are the lead actors, here are  a few pointers for capturing plenty of life and emotion.
  • Be true to your feelings. Express them, don’t hide them. Your feelings should show up in your body language. The secret to good footage is simply to let your outside reflect your powerful inner feelings.
  • It’s true that things can go wrong at weddings. Brides and grooms get upset by various hiccups or badly-behaved relatives. Rise above these, not letting anyone steal your joy. Keep it light, because the camera will pick up your emotions.
  • Express your affection. Look deeply into the eyes of your new life partner. Be tender. No matter how trivial these actions may seem, the camera will pick them up, and they’ll be remembered.
  • Stay tuned to the camera’s location. Try not to turn your back on the camera. Example: the first kiss. If you can, turn your bodies so the camera can capture that kiss full-on. After all,  your videographer might be trapped behind Uncle Marty and unable to shift. It’s your memory, so cooperate with the camera and help make it vivid.
Editing video is a lengthy process, anywhere from 15 to 30 hours. I try to keep the edit flattering for everyone, but if the bridesmaid deliberately does "cross eyes" into the camera - it should stay! If the bride deliberately pokes out her tongue - it stays. If the best man drops the ring and it rolls right down the isle - it stays. It will be kept fun and real. It worth noting that although videographers do their best to make the most of unpredictable conditions, unfamiliar spaces and lighting conditions can lead to lost chances. We work on the fly.. and fly as we work.
The Edit
In the editing process I keep it simple and tell the story as directly as possible. What this means is you won't end up with a 3 hour wedding video that puts your visitors to sleep :-)  The actual ceremony will remain intact except for "dead air."  This would be the 5 minutes it takes Aunty Mavis to get to the front for the poetry reading. If anything happens during the ceremony that you particularly want left out you would have to let me know (the stalker that gives a reason why these two ppl shouldn't wed). All in all,  I believe the final cut of a wedding video should last as long as it takes to enjoy a cheese platter with friends- less than 1 hour.
