The Masai Mara Game reserve

This is located in the South Western part of the country and is an extension of Tanzania’s Serengeti.All the big five are found here. TheMaraRivercuts across the park and plays a phenomenal role in the annual wildebeest migration. The wildebeest which migrate north and south acrossKenyaandTanzaniahave to cross this crocodile infested river. Most of them die in this quest. This becomes a spectacle to watch. There are various luxurious lodges in the Park as well as luxury tented camps.

TsavoNational park

This is the biggest national Park inKenyaand it comprises Tsavo East and Tsavo West. It is found in the South Eastern side of the country. Its hosts various animals and all the big five are also found here. One of the most fascinating historical attribute is the Man Eaters of Tsavo. These were two mane less lions which terrorized the builders of the Kenya Uganda railway. A fascinating lodge to reside while in Tsavo is the Salt lick Lodge, where there is a pool nearby which is frequented by wild animals for water drinking purposes.

AmboseliNational Park

This is located towards the South of Tsavo and is near the border ofKenyaandTanzania. The Snow cappedMount Kilimanjarois also visible from most areas within the park. The park biggest assets is the large population of freely roaming elephants where the big bulls have some of the biggest tusks ever seen in the world and the view of the lovely Kilimanjaro. There is also a diverse population of bird species.

LakeNakuruNational Park

This is a relatively small park and is ideal for a one day safari. It surrounds the saltylakeNakuruand covers an area of about 188 squared km. The shores of theLakeare habited by thousands of flamingoes which make the area pink. There are strategic picnic sites such as the baboon cliff, which is frequented by food seeking baboons. There are various animals in the park and one can luckily spot a leopard.

NairobiNational Park

This is the only park in the world that neighbors a major city. It is located in the outskirts ofNairobi, towards the South west. Four of the big five are found here, with the exception of the elephant. It is also ideal for a one day safari because it is not very big. One views the city from the distance and the sharp contrast between the urban development and the jungle presents itself. Near the gate of the park is theNairobisafari walk where caged animals are held.

AberdareNational Park

This is located in the central region of the country. It also comes with a large share of freely roaming elephants. There is a magnificent view of theAberdareMountainsfrom the eastern side. A historical fact worth mentioning is that the park hosted Queen Elizabeth on the night she became the queen ofEngland. The Mount isKenyais also nearby. The mountainous climate makes it a bit chilly. The park, which is around a water catchment area, has plenty of attractive water falls.
